I'm Still So Mixed on the New Return to Silent Hill Trailer

I have recently watched the new trailer to one of my few anticipated horror films releasing in 2026, Return to Silent Hill. I am a huge fan of Silent Hill 2, which is the Silent Hill story that this movie is going to be based on. This game has been positively received for years, including through the remake of the game that was released last year. 

The remake to the original game story was executed to perfection, and they were able to make the story their own, still being able to pull off the amazing story and the characters trapped in Silent Hill. 

So why does the movie look so different from the original game adaptation?

I have noticed way too many differences in this film, and I think they need to be discussed. 

1. Every single character looks way too different from the game adaptation.

The one thing that is really bothering fans of the game right now, is how different every single character looks in the movie. 

  • The main character, James Sunderland, is a blonde dude in the game. He straight up resembles another character from another Silent Hill game!
  • Angela, a side character, looks a bit more older in this one, and has a completely different design. She is 19 in the game, and wears simple attire of a sweater and pants. 
  • Eddie is probably the only one I don’t have that big of a problem with, but in the game, he is also a blonde dude. 
  • Laura looks like a witch in the movie. She was a completely normal kid in the game. 
  • Maria looks a bit closer to the game version, and is one of the few I’m kind of good with too. I still prefer her game designs though, in both the remake and original games. 

But overall, I’m kind of confused with all these crazy changes. I wonder if either the director didn’t want to copy the character designs, or maybe he wasn’t allowed to? Who knows?

2. Are we getting a silly backstory to Silent Hill?

What makes Silent Hill so awesome in that games, is the complete mystery of the town itself. These random characters are taken to Silent Hill to be psychologically tortured, and you never know how this mysterious and creepy town filled with monsters is able to bring you to this domain. 

Now it sounds like we are getting a backstory about the town. Maria tells James in the trailer that everyone in Silent Hill got sick, and possibly died from something. 

I’m not too happy with this change. They should have really kept the mystery, instead of adding a weird background to what happened in the town. 

3. Are we getting a different backstory to James?

I’m really not sure how to feel about this huge change. While I think it’s so cool how we are getting a backstory to some scenes with his wife, I’m not exactly thrilled about some changes with his character. 

In the game, it is heavily implied that he is a normal dude who works as a clerk in an office. 

In the movie, I think he is going to be a rich dude who is an artist, and is depressed from his wife’s passing. It’s a huge change from the original, I just don’t get why they couldn’t stick to the same old with the game. 

It also doesn’t help that he looks so different in the movie, but I guess time will tell, right?

While there are a lot of cons to this movie, I do have some good pros that I think this movie is pulling off very well from the looks of the trailer.

Pearl is a Wicked and Horrific Start to a Memorable Horror Trilogy

‘The Return of the Pumpkin Rabbit’ is an Animated Cartoon that is Absolutely Terrifying

The story follows a group of kids on Halloween who are curious to investigate a house known as The Murder House. The group of kids (the kids are actually animals) don’t realize what sort of horrors await inside of the house…and damn…it ends up turning into a fight for survival.
