The House of the Dead 2 Remake was an Awful Mess

I was not even aware that there was a remake being made for House of the Dead 2. After playing the first remake, that in my opinion, wasn't that bad, I assumed the second one was also going to be somewhat decent.

I was completely wrong...because it was much worse than I thought.

When the remake was released, it instantly received criticism by so many fans. Everyone constantly complained about the graphics to the game, that looked WORSE than the original that was released in 1998. How the game developers were able to accomplish such a feat is crazy to think about, knowing that the remake was released in 2025!

I knew that I had to check out this game for myself through YouTube, and I was met with the worse kind of madness.

I was bored.

OF A ZOMBIE GAME.

An arcade shooter that is supposed to be fun!

Right off the bat, I noticed one thing that really bothered me.

The graphics ruined the game.

1. The game was tough to even see the enemies.

Players complained so much about the fact that it was tough to even see the enemies that you were fighting. I was shocked to see that even the cutscenes had a dark screen over everything, it was like the developers purposely threw over the dark screen, to avoid putting effort into the graphics. I know that the original game is pretty old, but it looked so cool! The developers had so much opportunity to go all out here, and they didn't bother to.

2. The boss fights looked awful.

I can't believe that game developers messed up so bad on the best part of the game. The bosses in House of the Dead 2 are so wacky looking and cool, and they somehow made it look really bad. A headless knight, a dancing fish monster, five snakes, a creepy chainsaw man, and two dudes are able to fly and shoot balls at you...and they messed up these amazing concepts.

3. The voice acting was even worse than the original.

I know that the original voice acting to House of the Dead 2 is pretty hilarious and awful, but at least it was entertaining. There was something magical about the bad voice acting in the original, and it somehow worked. In the remake, they made it too OBVIOUS that no one actually gave a single shit. The first remake was able to carry that spark with the voice acting, but the sequel remake immediately lost it. The voice actors sounded so damn bored, and it was a huge shame that we also lost that same spark with the villains too.

The chainsaw dude was the biggest disappointment for me. He made this creepy sound in the original game, it was a grunting sound whenever he would get injured by the player, and I couldn't stand listening to it. In the remake, they made it obvious that it was just a big ass zombie coming after you. Not something to be feared like the original did.

So yeah. This game sucked.

I can't imagine what this game could have been like, if they had given it to a videogame company that actually gave a damn. Imagine what the boss enemies could have looked like if more effort was put into them. The dancing zombie could have been even scarier, the chainsaw dude could have sounded creepier, and the maybe the final secret boss fight could have a much better design.

What a shame.
