I Was Having a Rough Day and a Horror Book Cheered Me Up

Image
Credit to Man in Blue and Brown Plaid Dress Shirt Touching His Hair · Free Stock Photo I haven’t really been myself lately. This week hasn’t been the best, and I have been trying to get by every day. I haven’t been sleeping well, and a lot has been on my mind.  I decided that I should go to a store filled with books, to hopefully cheer me up. Books always have that effect on me, and I instantly feel good when I am in a bookstore. I chose to go to Target, to see what kind of horror books have been released.  I hadn’t been to Target in a long time, and I went in the morning on Thursday, not caring about the rainy weather. I wanted some time to myself, and this is exactly what I needed. I did get kind of mad at the GPS before I arrived at the store though. The damn thing was trying to take me to who knows where, but I chose to ignore it, and I got myself to Target instead lol.  When I arrived, I headed straight for the books. I was so surprised to see the huge new col...

'Body Bags' is Gory and Cheesy 90s Fun

Image
Credit to A Look Back At ‘Body Bags (1993) On Its 25th Anniversary — PopHorror I was really wanting to watch a horror movie last night, and I stumbled upon a John Carpenter film I have been wanting to watch for a long time on Shudder. I was not expecting to enjoy the film as much as I did.  Body Bags is an anthology film that follows three stories that will entertain you with its insane carnage. It features so many awesome horror legend cameos, such as John Carpenter himself as the storyteller, Wes Craven, Debbie Harry, and more.  I loved every story, and I loved how brutal the film was! Here is a quick summary of each story in case any of you lovely horror fans are interested in checking this film out! The Gas Station Credit to Body Bags (1993) — Black Horror Movies A woman decides to work at a 24-hour gas station for the night. Unfortunately, there is a serial killer on the loose, killing women. This does not stop our main protagonist from working the shift, and...

Hatchet For the Honeymoon is a Original Study into the Mind of a Serial Killer

Image
Credit to  Crappy Movie Reviews: Hatchet for the Honeymoon (1970) I had to include a bad, fun movie for the spooky season. I honestly didn’t know what to watch for today, so I decided to choose a terrible slasher movie on purpose. Instead of being super bored… I actually enjoyed it ? I think it had to do with one of the main plot points that I honestly thought was kind of genius for a serial killer point of view…because the killer’s main reason for killing was kind of…dumb. The story follows a handsome young man named John Harrington. He is a serial killer who goes after young women. He is aware that he is a madman, and that no one will ever suspect him of being a killer. He’s a bit weird. He likes to make out with mannequins. I wish I was joking. He sees himself as a child haunting his adult self. He even decides to put on lipstick and put a wedding veil on top of his head. Why? I honestly have no idea. He’s a madman. He even admits it, so I guess that makes sense? Now let’...

Why Are People Obsessed with Conspiracy Theories?

Image
Credit to Where do people believe in conspiracy theories? | YouGov I don’t get why people tend to fall for conspiracy theories. I am aware how fascinating it can be; how crazy people can become when they fall down the rabbit hole, but why do they allow themselves to get trapped? I like to avoid conspiracy theories, whether it be political, science related, or supernatural. I don’t see the need to let myself fall for something like that. And I honestly don’t care to learn more about any of them.  Deep down, I’m scared of conspiracy theories.  I’m afraid of allowing myself to believe in any of them. Why would I want to delve deeper into a mystery that I obviously will never learn the full truth?  The last thing I need is going insane.  Like come on. I’m a horror fan. I’m happy with the imagination I already got stored in my head, I don’t need to add something that would crack my head open like a walnut.  I don’t need that crazy shit in my life.  Want t...

'In a Violent Nature' is a Unique Spin on Slasher Horror

Image
Credit to Sundance: ‘In A Violent Nature,’ a slasher film — TownLift, Park City News I was expecting to get bored during this film, watching a killer wander the woods for hours. I was not expecting the film to kick off so crazy after the beginning offscreen death, and I found myself cringing from how brutal each death was in the movie.  And I loved how the ending caught me off guard, leading down to a conclusion I wasn’t expecting.  We follow the point of view of a killer named Johnny, who comes back from the dead after some asshole named Troy steals a necklace that belonged to his mother.  I’m not kidding here, this piece of shit is the reason why all of his friends die.  After Johnny kills a random dude who is caught by his own bear trap in the woods, he comes across the group who is carrying his mother’s necklace. He spots Troy with it, putting it into his pocket while a dude named Ehren is telling the origin story of how Johnny became a slasher.  From...

5 Horror Books that Any Horror Fan Would Love in 2025

Image
Credit to CS Lewis on the Value of Reading Old Books 2025 has been my year of reading so many new novels or reading old ones again that I really loved. The good news is that I now have a lot of room for new books. I recently was given two new bookshelves from a friend, and now I have two empty shelves that are waiting for new books to occupy that empty space! I can’t wait to start all over again, and not have any more room for my books lol. I am currently writing this, hoping it doesn’t rain anymore.  My fridge is not going to fill itself up with food lol.  In the meantime, why not talk about horror novels that any horror fan would love? Picture of Corpse with books.  5. The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager So far from the Riley Sager novels I have read, I think this one has the strangest plot twist reveal in the third act.  Despite that plot twist that caught me off guard, I loved how great the build up was. We follow the story of Casey Fletcher, who...

What is Thalassophobia?

Image
Credit to Photo of Bubbles Underwater · Free Stock Photo Thalassophobia is a phobia where people who have an intense fear of the ocean or deep bodies of water. People fear water, because they are scared of what might be lurking beneath, or they are terrified of drowning.  For me, it’s what kind of threat could be in the ocean.  This is a silly thing to say, but I’m going to just say it.  I’m scared that deep sea monsters could be hiding somewhere in the ocean.  It could be my love of horror talking here, but I am freaking scared of what the hell could be out there in the deepest waters. I do believe that sea monsters actually do exist…or maybe they used to. Hopefully. But think about it.  What if some of these sea monsters actually exist? Or are still alive? Lurking in waters that are impossible to navigate in the world? Thinking about it scares the shit out of me.  I sometimes picture myself in a small boat in middle of the ocean, frozen in pure fea...

I Have Officially Begun My Horror Book TikTok

Image
Credit to A Person Holding a Cellphone · Free Stock Photo I am happy to announce I have officially started a TikTok account for horror books. I have been wanting to do this for a long time, and I have decided to finally begin this week.  I thought about waiting for the right time, but like many YouTube or TikTok creators have said:  “There is no right time.” I am planning to post about once or twice a day. Hopefully I will be able to keep up once I begin working one of my main part time jobs from August through December, but I guess we shall see how that works out in the future.  My TikTok will be focused on mostly horror books, but I might consider throwing in thriller books too! I think some thriller novels deserve to be mentioned, because these stories do have horror-like themes! I also feel like I started my TikTok at the perfect time, because I now have a new book setup for my books! A wonderful friend had a surprise for me, and he gave me two bookshelves! Aft...

Stoker is a Disturbing Horror Story About Obsession

Image
Credit to Stoker (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes I had watched Stoker years ago, and I was so creeped out throughout the whole movie. For those who have seen it, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. I was trying to figure out what would be the perfect movie for Valentine’s Day, so I thought, why not creep everyone out who reads this movie review? This film… damn, I’m not sure how to go about writing this one. Stoker is a story about a young girl named India, and her life changes drastically when her father dies in a car accident. All that is left is India and her unstable mother… until her mysterious uncle, Charlie, decides to move in with them. Right away, we know that something is up with this guy. He seduces India’s mother, but we know that this guy is terrifying. Something isn’t right, and when I was first watching this movie, I had a gut feeling that he was the one who murdered India’s father. And sure enough, I was right. India’s father had Charlie placed in a mental institu...

Death Stranding 2 Features One of the Best Villian Designs I Have Seen in a Videogame

Image
Credit to  Death Stranding 2 On The Beach has been rated in South Korea I have to admit, that I have not played the first Death Stranding game at all. I have been wanting to play the game for a long time, but I still need to finish three other horror games before I touch this one. I recently decided to watch the trailer for the fun of it, and I immediately fell in love with a new villain design for the sequel.  I know that Higgs is one of the main villains from the first game, and I love how he looks in the new one. He is like the Joker/The Crow in one look, and I was not expecting his guitar weapon. I have a gut feeling the creators were inspired by The Crow design in the original film, since Eric Draven in the film does have clown like makeup with his own guitar.  I'm so damn excited to play the Death Stranding games, and wow, Troy Baker appears to have the time of his life playing Higgs in the sequel.  I did get to meet the voice actor at Comic Con many ...

Silent Hill F Now Has a Release Date

Image
Credit to  Silent Hill f - Official Release Date Trailer (Japanese Audio) | State of Play 2025 - IGN I'm happy to announce that Silent Hill F now has a release date! The game will be released on September 25th, 2025.  Just in time for Halloween too! I haven't seen the new trailer yet, I want to keep the rest of the game a surprise.  The first trailer was pretty damn promising, so I can't wait to watch another character get caught by Silent Hill. And I'm so curious to know why this new victim will be selected by the town...this franchise is truly something terrifying.  Are you excited for Silent Hill F?

The Outwaters is a Brilliant and Confusing Found Footage Horror Film that Will Mess with Your Head

Image
Credit to  The Outwaters review: A found-footage movie that breaks all the rules | Polygon The Outwaters is a great journey into the world of the unknown. And this is probably the craziest found footage horror film I have ever seen. This movie may not be for everyone, but I have to give it credit, it isn’t afraid to do its own thing with the use of the horror genre. The story follows a man named Robbie, his brother, and his two friends, Angela and Michelle. They are excited to travel to the Mojave Desert to film a music video. This already sounds like a cool project, and a disaster waiting to happen. After spending some time in the desert, the group hears strange noises, and sees weird lights in the middle of the darkness. Robbie and the crew even found a hole with strange sounds coming from within. Then…something really awful happens. Something so unexpected, that it actually scared the shit out of me. Robbie sees a man standing in the dark, holding an axe. I unfortunately...

What is Phantasmagoria?

Image
Credit to  Phantasmagoria Meaning I love to learn about random horror topics that I have never heard about in my life. I’m a major horror fan, but even I don’t know all of the horror topics linked with the genre. After learning about a particular horror game that gained a lot of controversary with the title of  Phantasmagoria , I became so interested in this random title. I had to find out why this game received such an iconic title, and after doing some research, it all made perfect sense. Apparently, there is a horror genre for creepy imagery or visions known as phantasmagoria. Have you ever experienced witnessing an insane vision that makes no sense? Have you ever seen creepy stuff that appeared right in front of you without rhyme or reason? Then that means you have experienced phantasmagoria, my friends. And it’s what many characters have experienced in so many horror movies I have seen! One perfect example is the remake to  Suspiria  that was released in ...
