5 Horror Games that Broke Me

I have played multiple horror games throughout the years. I have decided to only talk about five of them, because these particular horror games are the only ones who left an impact on me. What I mean by that is that I either broke down in tears, or I was so shocked with the ending of the game that I was speechless.

I love it when horror games do that.

It really shows that the developers were determined to create a masterpiece to shock their potential horror fans, and I'm glad we have gotten so many games that will stay with us forever.

Here are five horror games that broke me.

5. The Evil Within

The Evil Within was the first horror game that challenged me to the death. I had no clue that the game was automatically on nightmare mode, and I died about 256 times.

Yes, I'm playing, the game told me after the end credits, I had perished that many times.

I couldn't help but feel proud of this accomplishment, because I have no idea how I beat the game. I think my brain was at a different level at the time, because I was so determined to beat my first nightmare level game. I don't know how I was able to handle so many boss fights that left me wanting to tear out my hair, but I did.

One boss literally killed me 17 times in a row. How I didn't lose my mind is a mystery.

4. Obscure 2

I accidentally found this game on the Wii console at GameStop. When me and my sister saw the price of the game, we decided to buy it, especially when we found out that the game was 2 players. We were not expecting the game to scare the crap out of us, and give us anxiety as we navigated our way through the game.

The story centers around a group of college students who decide to use a new flower that emerges on campus, as a way to get high. When the college students wake up from their mysterious slumber, they come to the realization that something is wrong with some of the students. They have transformed into bloodthirsty beasts, and the main characters must do whatever it takes to survive.

What shocked me with the game was that the characters me and my sister played and bonded with actually started to get killed in the worst ways. The deaths were so shocking, that my sister and I were speechless in every scene. Even the order of the kills was really surprising, because one of the main characters dies first.

I think the only con for this game has to be the dialogue. I shit you not, there is one scene where a character dies, and one of the characters calls the beast a jerk. I thought that was so stupid, because dude just witnessed a murder, and that was his response. What???

3. The Evil Within 2

Credit to Steam

I don't care what critics or fans say about the sequel to The Evil Within 2, I thought it was a fantastic game. I loved how the story continued directly from the first one, and the characters in my opinion were written even better than the first one. I loved how Sebastian had a personality this time around, because his character felt kind of dull from the first one. I assume that it was due to shock with what he went through in the first game, but he did show more emotion in the sequel.

Sebastian has one of the saddest backstories to a horror videogame character. He discovers that his wife and daughter were placed in a government experiment, and he spent a long time of his life trying to find them. It's even worse when he finds out that a partner that he trusted in his police force was a part of the experiment, but she tries to fix what she did by convincing him to take part in the experiment to find his daughter.

What we get is a great horror story with multiple boss fights were much easier to handle, since we now had the option to choose our difficulty, (there was no way in hell I would have been ready for nightmare mode again) with a lot of twists and turns I did not see coming.

What shocked me with this game, was how emotional I got in some scenes. I just felt so bad for the main character, he went through so much...

I think the only con with the second game it that the same fear I felt from the first one was gone, but other than that, I thought this sequel was awesome!

2. Silent Hill 3

Silent Hill 3 was one of the best stories from the Silent Hill franchise. We follow the story of Heather Mason, a girl who has no idea that Silent Hill is hunting her down. She gets sucked into the world of Silent Hill, where she must survive against the monsters and even people who are searching for her.

I felt so sorry for Heather, she was just a kid who was forced to endure so much chaos at the hands of something so evil. How she was able to get through it all on her own is a miracle, this girl was so strong, all because of the man who raised her. I loved how Heather was able to stand her own ground against the people, like seriously, each of those characters really sucked.

They were so evil and manipulative, I can't believe that Heather was able to hold her own against each of them. That ending of her breaking down is what really broke me, and that was the moment that I realized how amazing this game was. It was a perfect horror story, and I loved the execution of it!

I was also scared shitless in a lot of scenes, so that was another thing I loved about the game!

1. Silent Hill 2/ Silent Hill 2 Remake

Silent Hill 2 was the first horror game I was ever introduced to. I found myself immersed in this strange world, as James Sunderland made his way toward discovering the truth about why his dead wife sent him a letter to come to Silent Hill. I couldn't get over how well written the story was, and its characters who each hid a dark secret.

What really made Silent Hill 2 the perfect horror game ever made, was the twist that we get in the third act of the game.

MAJOR SPOILERS HERE IF YOU WANT TO STOP READING!!!

The whole time, we were playing the bad guy.

James was the one who killed his wife.

The first time I saw this scene, I was beyond speechless. I just sat there during the entire cutscene, trying to process what the hell just happened. I didn't know how to feel about James anymore after that, and I was so angry that I had been playing a monster the whole time. It was the perfect reaction, and I will always love the game for that reason alone!

I was really surprised and so happy that the Silent Hill 2 Remake was as amazing as the first game. The graphics were beautiful, and they were still able to capture that same feeling that I felt from the original Silent Hill 2. I loved that the game was ten times longer, and it was awesome that they now had the town of Silent Hill as an open world game.

Both Silent Hill games are perfect in my eyes, and I can't wait to play them both again!

Thank you for reading!
