I was really wanting to watch a horror movie last night, and I stumbled upon a John Carpenter film I have been wanting to watch for a long time on Shudder. I was not expecting to enjoy the film as much as I did.
Body Bags is an anthology film that follows three stories that will entertain you with its insane carnage. It features so many awesome horror legend cameos, such as John Carpenter himself as the storyteller, Wes Craven, Debbie Harry, and more.
I loved every story, and I loved how brutal the film was! Here is a quick summary of each story in case any of you lovely horror fans are interested in checking this film out!
The Gas Station

A woman decides to work at a 24-hour gas station for the night. Unfortunately, there is a serial killer on the loose, killing women. This does not stop our main protagonist from working the shift, and while she is studying for final exams while working at the same time, she undergoes a lot of uncomfortable scenarios.
Men are constantly hitting on her, and she runs into strange people who could possibly be a threat. Are any of these people the serial killer?
I thought this was a pretty strong start to the anthology, and it was awesome to see a smart protagonist for once in a horror movie!
Hair

A man is frustrated and insecure about himself. Even though he appears to live in a fancy home, and has a hot girlfriend who loves him for who he is, he can’t stand the idea of going bald. He is desperate to have hair again, and is willing to partake in anything to ensure he gets his confidence back.
He stumbles upon a mysterious company who offers him the chance to gain back his hair. He gets his wish…but at the worst cost he did not see coming.
The main actor did such a good job with playing his character. I felt his excitement and dread when it came to his hair, and I felt so bad for the character as the episode progressed.
Eye

A man’s successful life comes crashing down when he gets into a car accident, losing his right eye. He is heartbroken when he realizes he lost his special eye that he uses for his baseball career, but he gets the chance to play again when a doctor offers to implant a brand-new eye for him.
He immediately takes the opportunity to be a part of this new surgery, and he is given a new eye. Delighted, he is able to go back home, and be with his wife, where he learns that he is going to be a father.
While everything appears to be going smoothly for him, something strange starts to happen. He starts to have terrifying visions of dead blonde women, and he finds himself in absolute terror, trying to figure out what is disrupting his wonderful life.
I loved how over the top this one became, and I liked how it took place in the house during the story, kind of like how the first story used the same location with the gas station. And damn, the gore was pretty hard to watch in this one!
Side note: If you’re wondering why I didn’t use any names for the characters, it’s because I genuinely don’t remember any of the names. The movie was freaking great, but none of the names stuck to me lol. I was too focused on the insanity of each story.
Every horror fan would adore this film. You could tell the actors had fun with their roles, including John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper, who both directed the stories and acted in small roles. It was a joy to watch, and was one of the best horror surprises for 2025!
