Windom Earle was an Odd Choice for a Villain in Twin Peaks

Windom Earle did not feel like he belonged in the universe of Twin Peaks. Once the second half of season 2 fell into the 'soap opera' era, an old foe of Cooper's, known as Windom Earle, entered back into his life. Cooper was romantically involved with his wife, and this connection led to Windom coming after him. I personally did not like Windom Earle. He was way too cartoonish for a show like this, and I honestly thought he belonged in the DC universe, as a Batman villain.

Windom Earle was dangerous, but there was also some comedy thrown into his character, which made no sense for the creepy atmosphere of Twin Peaks. I thought it was kind of silly how he kept on disguising himself as random people, and you're telling me that he was able to blend in so easily among Twin Peaks, a police department that literally dealt with a terrifying supernatural entity?

I felt that Windom Earle had so much potential, but his character was wasted by the multiple directors/writers of the second half of season 2. If the entity Bob had decided to use Windom Earle as his next vessel, he could have used a different tactic to go after Cooper, still making him scary in his own way. The disguises could have been so effective with Windom Earle, if Bob had decided to use Earle's skills to his advantage. There was only episode where Windom Earle actually caught me off guard. Before the awesome season finale of season 2, Windom Earle takes on the disguise of one important character known as Margaret, the Log Lady.

I don't know how I was so caught off guard by this scene. I should have known that it was Windom Earle, but the way that the scene was shot was so clever and eerie, and it made me realize what we could have had if David Lynch had been given creative freedom throughout season 2. It really felt like a scary moment with Windom Earle, and I loved how threatening he came off as the Log Lady, even though it was only for a short moment.

I thought it was hilarious how Lynch immediately killed off Windom's character in the finale like nothing, once he ran into Bob. It really made you realize that no one in the Red Room is safe, especially if entities from the Black Lodge are sticking around.

Windom Earle had the opportunity to be another terrifying villain, but he was completely wasted by the writers who did not understand the creative mind of David Lynch.
