Mindwarp is a Mindf*ck

I have watched a lot of weird horror movies throughout my life, but I think this one really stood out from all the rest. I ignored the bad reviews from critics, and decided to give a horror movie called Mindwarp a chance. I finally got to check it out on Tubi, and I was blown away by how this movie...confused the shit out of me.

We follow the story of a woman named Judy, who is unhappy with her life. She lives in a Sci - fi simulator universe, and is stuck inside of a room with her mother. They are able to enter a world where they can imagine whatever they desire in their dreams.

Judy is tired of her fake world, and desires to see the real world. She is given that chance, when she goes against protocol. Her mother is killed by accident due to Judy's actions, and she is taken away by the guards. She wakes up in a desert world, where cannibals reside. Judy is saved by a mystery man named Stover, who takes her into his home, and teaches her the way of this world. She learns that the creatures were created by a virus, turning them into bloodthirsty monsters.

Judy and Stover fall in love, but their bliss is interrupted when the cannibals find them. They drag the duo underground, where these monsters reside. Stover is put to work along with the other cannibals, as Judy is questioned and analyzed by a woman and a young girl underground. When Judy and Stover attempt to fight back, a lot of things go wrong.

In one of the sickest scenes of the movie, we see a young girl get straight-up slaughtered by the leader of the cannibals.

I was in shock throughout this whole scene, because they SHOWED everything.

They young girl gets one of her eyes removed, and then she is sliced into pieces by a machine, as the cannibals gather her blood to drink. Judy is forced to drink the blood of the young girl too as punishment for turning against their group.

I couldn't believe how violent this scene was. The whole movie is pretty disgusting, but I think this death scene was the worst one in the entire film. I was so surprised that her death scene was this graphic, but I guess the filmmakers were determined to make this scene uncomfortable for the audience.

Then the darkness of the film gets even worse.

Judy finds out that the leader is her father.

Judy had assumed that her father was dead, but he had also been exiled like Judy. She tries to convince him to come back to her world, bringing Stover with them. He declines, and then tells Judy that he wants her to rule with him. She plays along for now, determined to save Stover. Unfortunately, she finds him getting infected by the same virus that made the cannibals, and she begs her father to save him.

I lost my mind when her father attempted to convince her that they must have children together to continue the bloodline of their family.

Like what??? I knew her dad sucked, but that was way too far.

Judy rejects this sick option, choosing death. She is brought to the same machine that had killed the young girl. Judy fights back, and Stover comes to her rescue. They defeat her father, throwing him into the machine to be sliced up.

Then the situation continues to get worse.

Stover loses to the infection of the cannibal virus.

Stover forces Judy to drink her father's blood, and she runs away from the underground base in complete fear. Stover collapses from the chase, and Judy runs back to him to comfort him. He vomits slugs all over her, throwing blood all over her face and clothes. Stover passes out, but when he wakes up, he smiles at her, his teeth covered in blood.

Judy runs away again, and then she wakes up back in her Sci - Fi world.

Yes, I'm not kidding. None of this insanity was real.

Judy learns that her father was the one in charge of the Sci - fi world, and he tells Judy she must rule now. The movie ends with Judy waking back up in her bed, leaving the audience to wonder if all of that really happened.

Listen...I gotta be honest here.

I sort of wished the movie had ended with Stover smiling at her covered in blood, and Judy screaming herself into madness. That would have been a perfect ending to this film, because I loved how messed up this movie was. It was a great mindf*ck.

But...I was so confused with Judy waking up twice toward the end of the movie. Why would her dad make her see all of that crazy shit?

  • Why the hell would he make his own daughter experience a world where he wanted to have children with her???

  • Why make her go through the process of falling in love, only to lose Stover to the disease?

  • Why show her a world where cannibals rule and consume people??

  • Most importantly, why show a young girl get ripped apart???

That's next-level messed up. Damn, what the hell is wrong with her dad? I know that he wanted to teach her a lesson into what she is meant for, but then I was so confused with that ending. I think the simulator storyline could have been executed much better, but that was just confusing.

I really loved Mindwarp before the main character wakes up. It never held back on the violence, and I loved how disturbing the film was!
