The Bye Bye Man Wasted its Monster Potential

I got to be honest here, I actually haven’t seen The Bye Bye Man. Nor do I care to. The reason for not watching this movie is that I know I will waste my time with this one. After hearing about the monster concept and the lack of its powers presented in the film, I was disappointed.

The Bye Bye Man has two simple sayings:

Don’t think it.

Don’t say it.

But the film never uses any of these concepts. Instead, if the victim falls under the spell of the monster’s illusion of terror, then you will die.

Why the hell would the film sway away from its concept?

It makes no sense, and I think that the writers most likely gave up while writing the script. The Bye Bye Man feels like a cash grab after watching several YouTube reviews based on this movie.

It’s a huge shame, because the design of the monster is honestly really cool. It’s a simple design, with a creepy pale faced monster that wears a trench coat, that has a pet dog that consumes the bodies of the victims.

The dog sucks in the movie, and based on the clips I saw, the dog is completely CGI. And it looks bad. Really bad.

If this movie was given to a director that cared about the horror genre, it probably would have been a huge film for horror fans.

How I wish this guy could have scared the crap out of me, but instead, I found myself feeling bad for the creature. He could have been put in a much better movie with a better script.

Now that is a wasted opportunity.

    1. Maybe. I wished the logo symbol of the creature changed too. It was too dumb, and it didn't fit whatever the movie was going for.
