“Possession” Features One of the Worst Demonic Possessions I Have Ever Seen

It’s rare for horror movies to bother the hell out of me, but Possession was one of the few that took me out. In other words, this movie made me extremely uncomfortable during my first watch.

I think it had to do with the fact that I watched this movie at a bad time.

I had started watching Possession back in 2022, and I was sick with COVID while watching this film. I actually wasn’t that sick, but I still felt out of it. I think I was, like, a 4/10 at most. I was also kind of stressed out while watching this film because I had been attending online summer college courses around that time, too.

So, it was definitely a bad idea to watch this movie while going through both of those things at the same time lol.

Possession is about two people named Anna and Mark, who go from being a normal married couple with a son, to a full-on nightmare. Once Anna reveals to Mark that she is having an affair, she leaves Mark and her son. This leads to a spiral of madness, violence, abuse, and death.

Mark is so determined to figure out what is going on with Anna, who has delved into complete madness, showing signs of a possession — a terrifying one that has turned her into some kind of monster. Mark has also become one in his own way, doing whatever it takes to get the love of his life back, even if he has to hurt her in doing so.

I kept on questioning the sanity of these two characters. They have a child, and that wasn’t enough for the two of them to quit their crazy shit! I’ll excuse Anna a little bit, since she was possessed, but Mark was not! Dude took things way too far when it came to love!

I’m now about to describe… Anna’s possession reveal. I want to leave a warning here, in case none of you want to get spoiled with this. It’s original… and freaking insane.

Alright, here goes.

Anna fell in love with an actual monster.

It is revealed later in the film that she fell for a monster, and it looks like something from a Lovecraftian horror story. It’s open to interpretation whether or not Anna did love this creature, but from what she tells Mark in one scene, she wanted a chance at escape from her troubled marriage and to lose her own identity.

She found her chance with whatever this damn monster was.

And toward the end of the film, Anna and Mark both end up dying, a fitting end to their messed up relationship. Their son also ends his own life at the end of the film too, because that poor kid witnessed so much madness from his own parents.

There is a lot more to the film, but I’ll probably write the analysis article much later. I really wanted to talk about the twisted relationship between Mark and Anna, because it was the first horror film where a possession really messed with my head.

“The Exorcist” was the first one to feature a child under the control of a demon, but “Possession” was just…something else, man.
