'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' is a Horror Musical Triumph that Shocked the World
It’s a shame that not many horror musicals exist out there in the world, but knowing that The Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of them, makes me so damn happy. The first time I saw this film; I was blown away by how bold the filmmakers were to have something like this released to the public.
Upon its release in 1975, this film received major controversy. It was banned in the UK, Canada, Iceland, Ireland, West Germany, and Norway. All because of the huge sexual themes that took place in the film.
I can definitely see why this film freaked out so many people. I could not believe how much sexual themes were in this film the first time I watched it. We got Tim Curry, a dude who played a scientist that always dressed like a woman. He creates his own creature like Dr. Frankenstein did, bringing a hot guy to life to become his romantic partner.

Then we got the scientists’ own group of people, who consist of a woman dressed like a ballerina who is in love with a biker, and two people…who are hinted to be lovers…who are actually brother and sister.
This is the only problem I had with the film…I know that these sexual beings were supposed to be aliens, but their scenes were pretty tough for me to watch.
Other than that, I consider this film to be a horror masterpiece. I was vastly entertained by the musical numbers, and I felt so bad for Brad and Janet, a couple who stumble upon this sexual nightmare when they ran into the scientist and his minions.
I was honestly so impressed that the scientist was able to seduce both Brad and Janet. How could anyone resist Tim Curry in women’s clothing? And his makeup was so on point. And that singing voice…wow.
He was amazing in this film.

This dude deserves so many awards for his performance. My theory is that people didn’t like the film, because they were afraid to admit that Tim Curry was super hot lol. I thought he looked so badass, and it took balls to come out in a film like this!
I’ve seen this movie about four times throughout my life, and the experience is always the same for me. I’m always entertained by the cast and the production, and I love the ending too. I still can’t get over that Tim Curry was also Pennywise in the original Stephen King TV series. That is so impressive that he was able to pull off two iconic horror figures.
I’m glad to say that this film now has a cult following. It deserves to have a huge fanbase, and it’s one of my favorite horror films ever made.
We got several deaths, an amazing musical number, an excellent cast, and even though the plot is pretty weird, it is saved by Tim Curry’s sexy performance. Like seriously, I can’t picture this film without him!
