‘The Strangler’ is a Weird Fever Dream
It is tradition for me to include a dumb horror film during the month of October. I was expecting a really bad movie, but this one was actually really bad. I was so confused with the plot, and I kept questioning the characters.
Nothing made any sense…the beginning was interesting and could have led into a great direction, but it turned into…whatever that was.
I’m going to do my best to summarize the plot, but if you’re confused by the end of this article, I’m sorry.
If it makes you feel any better, this movie confused the hell out of me too. Everything I am about to say actually happened. For real. If you don’t believe me, go watch the movie. It’s that weird.
The story follows a man named Emile who witnessed a horrific murder take place by a stranger that offered to give him sweets. The stranger leaves Emile by himself, leaving the poor kid with the body of the woman.
Sounds like a depressing start, huh?
It gets worse from here. And not in a good way.
Emile goes after women who look depressed, but the execution is quite poor.
Yes, you heard that right.
Emile goes after women who are depressed, begging him to murder them.
It could have been interesting direction to focus on in the movie, like what if everything was in his head, but no...all that really happened, and it just came off so dumb.
And the worst part was that all of the murders were offscreen.
If you’re going to call the film The Strangler, show the deaths!
Nope, we didn’t even get that.
Emile gets away with his murders, because everyone he runs into finds him fascinating.
I couldn’t believe what I was watching at first. There was no way that every single person he ran into didn’t report his crimes because they found him fascinating…who the hell would do something so stupid?
I guess these people didn’t see these murders as murders, because the women wanted to die…how the hell does that make any sense?
What’s more annoying is that Emile suddenly turns into this mysterious hot guy, who gives out a quick monologue to an inspector about why he kills.
Yes, an inspector that he straight up confessed to about his crimes, doesn’t bother turning him in to the police…he even hands over the murder weapon, and still doesn’t turn him in.
No way. Just no way…so cause this dude was hot, he was spared until the ending of the film? Why…
To make it even more confusing, another hot guy is introduced, and even he isn't given up to the cops...
Another villain is introduced to the film, and this guy follows the hot killer around, and waits until he murders. Then he goes over to the victim to rob the body.
And guess what? Some people find out who he is, and even they don’t turn him in to the police…make it make sense! He has the information about who the real killer is!
Oh wait, I forgot…the killer is hot, so they won’t capture him. The thief probably won’t be questioned either, because he is hot too…
They eventually run into each other at some point, and the killer is actually really pissed off at the thief, and tells him to stop robbing the bodies.
The thief then mentions that he wants to continue, and tells the killer that he will not stop. Emile threatens to kill him later.
Oh my, is that a foreshadow?
I wonder how the movie is going to end…
Emile and the thief have a showdown that is setup by the inspector.
Instead, he sets up a fight between the thief and the killer. Both hot guys fight pretty poorly with knives, and they both end up killing each other.
The thief dies outside offscreen, and Emile dies in the arms of the inspector’s girlfriend. The inspector is also there, watching him die. Then the killer’s death is portrayed as a sad death.
How?
Why should I feel bad for this guy?
He killed a lot of people. The thief, the inspector, and his girlfriend each knew he was killer. Yet none of them turned them in.
Wow…just what the hell did I just watch?
I have to say, I think this is one of the worst horror films I have ever seen. This film made no sense…and I still have no idea what I just watched.
