5 Horror Films with the Worst Alien Invasions in Sci - Fi History

One of my personal scares when it comes to horror movies is alien invasions. I have seen my fair share of alien invasion films, and I'm a huge fan of this genre. This article will be going over alien invasions that involve the takeover of the whole world, so I won't be going over films like John Carpenter's The Thing, since that alien only attacked two groups of people.

Aliens also doesn't count, since the films I have seen don't involve them coming to Earth. I did hear that the TV show Alien: Earth is really damn good, but since I haven't seen it yet, this show won't be included in this article.

And I also won't be including War of the Worlds 2025…because that movie is beyond dumb.

Here are five films with the worst alien invasions:

5. Skyline

While Skyline isn't exactly a really good film, the alien invasion in this movie is freaking BRUTAL. Aliens in their ships arrive to planet Earth, and start sucking humans up like a vacuum into their ships, or send monsters to dispose of the remaining humans.

They arrived to Earth to collect the brains of mankind, and from we see happening in this city, we know that a crapload of people definitely did die. I think this type of alien invasion would be freaking tough to survive.

Trying to avoid these types of aliens is impossible, and once they catch you, it's game over.

Chances of survival: LOW

4. They Live

I know that I mentioned about not talking about The Thing, but this John Carpenter alien film definitely deserves a mention. What makes these aliens scary, is that they were already invading Earth. They had disguised themselves as humans, working their way through leadership roles and perfectly blending in among the planet.

Once the main character finds a pair of black glasses, he is able to see past their alien disguises, and takes matters into his own hands to destroy their 'alien source' on Earth to reveal their alien selves to the world.

I think it would be possible to survive with this kind of alien invasion. The aliens are actually pretty easy to kill, so I think we would have a chance. We don't actually see them fight as an army, so I won't be giving this movie that high of a ranking, in case I could be wrong of surviving this type of scenario.

Chances of survival: MID - HIGH

3. Signs

This film is one of the creepiest alien invasions I have seen in a horror movie. When the aliens arrive, a terrifying sort of creeps over the entire world, leaving everyone wondering what the hell these things want. It's eerie how the aliens don't outright start the alien invasion.

They leave behind weird symbols in several parts of the world, announcing their arrival, wandering Earth. One particular family discovers one of the symbols on their farm, and the family realizes that one of the aliens is on their own property.

The family bands together in a fight for survival, and they learn that the aliens have a weakness, and wow, these alien bastards are WEAK.

Water is their weakness. So, if we were to ever get an alien invasion like this, just equip yourself with a hose, and you will live.

Chances of survival: HIGH

2. A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place is another alien franchise will leaves me depressed. You cannot make any sound during this alien invasion, or these monsters will find you and kill you in seconds.

We watch families, friends, and strangers struggle to stay alive in a world that once belonged to them, and it's so sad when we see particular characters bite the dust. It's also one of the strongest starts to a franchise too, proving that no one in this world is safe.

We don't have a backstory to these aliens, and I hope the writers intend to keep it that way.

Chances of Survival: LOW

1. War of the Worlds (2005)

The first remake to War of the Worlds is a damn masterpiece compared to the awful 2025 version. This alien invasion is by far the worst one I have ever seen in my life, and I am kind of scared of this one. I can't stand the fear of humanity as they are willing to do whatever it takes to survive, only to die in the end.

These aliens are beyond impossible to survive. They attack the human race in their machines, vaporizing people, and the survivors end up getting collected and harvested, turning them into blood puddles.

There is no hope in this film, and it's a tragic one.

It's so depressing how the alien's weakness was breathing in the germs of planet Earth, but by then, they had killed about 2 billion people…so I don't exactly see this as a huge victory.

Chances of survival: NO HOPE
