5 Horror Novels to Read in Time for Halloween

I’m aware how early it is to talk about Halloween, but it’s already around the corner! I’ve been on a massive hunt for horror stories recently, and I have discovered plenty of books that horror fans would love to read!
Some of them have been huge surprises, and I love batshit crazy some of these books were! Some of them are pretty damn graphic, but I guess it’s to be expected for horror novels like this, especially with Halloween about to arrive.
Here are five horror novels that all horror fans must read:
Picture of horror books I bought.
5. The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells
I was so surprised with how entertaining this novel was. I did hear the black and white movie was pretty good, so I decided to give this book a read. I was able to get my hands on this book for free, and I found myself really enjoying the story.
The invisible man was a pretty freaky villain. The thought of someone being invisible and coming after you is so terrifying. I felt so sorry for one character that was hiding from the invisible man for the longest time, and he even lost a friend who was trying to protect him from this monster.
The novel does make you feel a bit sorry for the invisible man, but come on. Why conduct a crazy experiment like that on yourself in the first place?
4. Cold by Drew Hayden Taylor
I haven’t read a monster story like this in so long. A wendigo comes to a city, where it starts to go after anyone to stay alive. We follow two characters in the story who become involved in a murder investigation, after they lose someone they both had feelings for.
They discover that a wendigo is hunting people down, and they must do whatever it takes to put an end to the madness. The monster in this story was so damn scary. Each of the victims all died in fear, and twists and turns in this novel is so good!
Even the people who die in the book is so unexpected, and it was like watching a horror TV show at some points of the book. I can’t believe this is the author’s only horror novel, he should really consider writing more stories like this!
3. The Only One Left by Riley Sager
This is Riley’s best novel. It’s a great gothic horror tale with a murder mystery that will leave you with your head spinning. A nurse is forced to take on the job of watching over a convicted murderer who was never brought to justice, after she was accused of her own crime, ruining her life.
Once she arrives to the property, she begins to try and unravel the mystery of why her patient murdered her parents and sister in cold blood many years ago. She also starts to learn dark secrets from each of the staff who also live on the property, and she begins to wonder if any of them know the real truth of what took place on the property all those years ago.
This is the first book I was not expecting to be filled with multiple twists and turns. I felt so dizzy in so many parts of the book, trying to process what the hell I just read. This book is a damn wild RIDE.
2. Youthjuice by E.K. Sathue
This is one of the craziest novels I have read this year. A young woman gets her dream job of being able to work for a makeup company, but she realizes that something evil is taking place within the workplace. The boss of the company is a sick maniac, who uses the blood of young people in her own makeup products, to ensure that every woman will be able to stay young forever.
The protagonist shockingly gives herself to this company, willing to do anything for her boss to make sure she will keep her job and stay beautiful forever…and that includes murder.
This book gives a glimpse into how crazy the rich can be, and man, some of these characters were so freaking scary. The boss in this book made me so uncomfortable, she was one of the creepiest characters I have ever read in a horror novel…but she cannot compare to the main protagonist from the next book I’m going to talk about.
1. Maeve Fly
This is one of the most graphic books I have ever read…and it’s been years since I read a book this gruesome. The last one I read that really got to me was American Psycho. I can see why a lot of readers kept comparing this book to Maeve Fly.
We follow the story of a young woman named Maeve, who is absolutely sick in the head. She has a dark side to her, one that she is scared to show anyone. She is a serial killer, who takes pleasure in murdering anyone who pisses her off. She meets a young man who is just like her, but she refuses to believe that someone like her can find true love.
Yeah…she definitely has a point there, because man…she is one evil son of a bitch.
I got more horror novels in store to share later!
