Starry Eyes is a Brutal Story of How Far One Would Go for Fame
Starry Eyes is a horror film that follows the story of an aspiring actress named Sarah who is willing to do whatever it takes to make her dreams come true in the world of Hollywood.
Sarah is a good person with a kind heart, that has dreams like many of us do. She is currently working in a fast-food restaurant that she doesn't exactly love, and she is staying with her friends, some of them being quite encouraging, while some are a bit jealous of her ambition.
A movie studio digs its claws into Sarah, convincing her to give in to the darkest actions imaginable. Her desire to become famous is so strong, that she no longer cares about the consequences.
Her body literally goes through its own reverse metamorphosis, slowly declining into something pure evil.
It’s horrible to witness a person with a good soul experience this kind of tragedy, and her journey truly paints a wicked picture of how terrifying Hollywood can actually be.
What Sarah does to obtain her dreams…is sickening and tragic.
Sarah’s biggest task is to murder all of her friends to become famous, or she will die.
You wouldn’t think Sarah would actually go through with this horrible demand that the movie studio would ask her to do, right?
Surely, she would give up her life for people that have been nothing but supportive of her, and wanting what is best for her?
Just when I was expecting her to remain true to herself, she surprises me by going on a murder rampage against her own friends.
She takes down each of them in different ways, all of them suffering from both pain and the betrayal of their own friend killing them one by one.
This was the part of the film I absolutely hated, and I no longer was rooting for Sarah’s character by this point in the film. She had made her choice: become famous by getting rid of the people who wanted her to be happy.
After she completes her task, Sarah is taken by the movie studio, that turned out to be a cult. Sarah is completing the final part of her transformation, and they help her get to the final phase.
Sarah awakens as a brand-new woman with power.
Sarah emerges from out of a burial site, hinting that the old Sarah is now dead, and the new one is now born. She no longer has any hair, and her eyes are now green. Sarah goes back home to her apartment, where her most supportive friend who wasn't present at the murder site, arrives to find Sarah in her bedroom.
Sarah ruthlessly murders her, using her new powers on her, showing the audience that Sarah has gained more than her dream. I think Sarah had either become a demon or a powerful witch, but this is never fully explained. She starts to put on the outfit that the movie studio had left for her, and they give her a wig, resembling the same one she saw in her dreams.
The movie ends with Sarah studying her new reflection in the mirror, now resembling the confident and famous actress that Sarah had dreamt about for so long. Sarah became just like the monsters who promised her fame. Watching her embrace her monstrous side was heartbreaking and tragic, knowing that she was no longer the old Sarah we once knew.
She was now a monster disguised in human flesh, completing her transformation into what she always wanted to become.
A better version of herself, that gave up her humanity and her loved ones for fame.
