I Recently Watched One of the Darkest Episodes I Have Ever Seen in Television

I am a huge fan of a television show called, ‘Little House on the Prairie.’ It’s such a wholesome story, following a family who lives in a countryside, told from the point of view of a little girl named Laura. While this show is known for depicting a beautiful story of a coming-of-age story with a girl and her family, this show has revealed a lot of disturbing moments that I did not expect.
For a show that came out in the 70s, it’s pretty shocking to see the disturbing stuff that took place within the story of this poor family that never deserved to go through such horrific events.
There are way too many episodes that are beyond dark, but I think the one that is probably in the top three most messed up episodes is: May We Make Them Proud.

The main family is staying at the School for the Blind in the episode, that belongs to a blind couple named Mary and Adam, who are also teachers for the students. The large building suddenly catches fire, and everyone inside goes into a panic and attempts to escape from the building.
One of the characters named Alice tries to run to a bedroom to save Mary and Adam’s baby, but she hears a kid is trapped in a closet. She saves his life, and goes back for the baby.
In a dark twist of fate, this leads to her death, including the baby.
The fire blocks off Alice from escaping the room, and she breaks the window in the room, screaming for help. Everyone who escaped is forced to listen to her screams and watch in terror as they realize there is no hope for Alice and the baby.
I kept waiting for the two characters to be saved, because I didn’t think that the show was going to kill both of them off. The scene continued, and we cut to the building now completely burned to the ground. The characters are able to recover the bodies of both Alice and the baby, and it’s absolutely heartbreaking to watch the reactions of everyone present.
I don’t think I have ever seen an episode to a TV show this disturbing in my life.
I could not get over the fact that a baby was killed in such a horrible way. Watching Alice try her best to save the baby, only for both of them to receive the same fate bothered me so much. Alice’s character had always been so strong willed throughout the entire show, and for her to go down like that broke me…and the worse part was that her husband and son watched her die.
And the thought of poor Mary and Adam knowing that their baby was dying along with her…man, this was such heavy material.
My jaw dropped when they gave Mary her dead child, and she had gone into complete shock by this point. She sang to her child, as her family watched her with solemn expressions.
It’s so freaking sad, man.
Watching poor Mary throughout the entirety of the next episodes, struggling to move on from the loss of her child made me cry. I cannot imagine that type of pain, and wow, her acting was way too raw for me to handle. She would scream and cry, as her family helped her to get through her terrible ordeal.
And if you think all of this is already bad enough, Mary learns that her own brother had something to do with the accidental fire. He does try to apologize to her later, but it does not bode well for him.
This show is fantastic, and while I love the family themes present in the show, this episode honestly destroyed me.
What television shows have you seen that left you freaking out?
