Tokyo Gore Police is Pure Body Horror Insanity that Left Me Disgusted

I watched Tokyo Gore Police for the first time last night, and it was one of my most anticipated movies of this year.
Now…I’m not so sure how to feel.
This movie is difficult to put into words…without feeling the urge to vomit.
That is probably the best way I can describe this film.
The only way I can describe this film.
This is hands down the craziest horror film I have seen so far in October. I felt so freaking disgusted during so many scenes in this film, and I had to keep my eyes away from the screen to avoid feeling sick.
This movie does have a cult following, and yes, the body horror insanity is awesome, but the sick bits sprinkled in certain parts of this movie really bothered me on another level. Now…how should I even describe the plot to Tokyo Gore Police?
Well…it’s pretty strange. But also cool at the same time?

We follow the story of a young woman determined to find the killer of her father. She is now a police officer, following in her father’s footsteps. She works with a group of police officers that are pretty much super soldiers who must battle body horror nightmares.
A terrifying sickness has been spread in their city, and one person has been injecting people with a flesh key, that gives them the power to turn any wound into a body horror weapon.
Yes, that is the actual plot.
It’s great, but the disgusting parts really took me out of this movie in multiple scenes.
I’m not saying these parts ruined the movie, but I thought they were so unnecessary. Maybe keep several scenes, but some of these parts were too much. The body horror was excellent, but the film took it a step too far when it came to the use of it in some scenes.
There is one part in the movie that got me so bad, I had to skip it entirely.
While the main character is undercover to hunt the madman, she witnesses a random dude eating a bowl of actual insects.
But the way it was filmed was so awful, and I hated it.
And what’s crazy is that the film featured more scenes that were even worse than that moment.
Look, I loved the fun ideas this film had. They were fun, and the horror fan in me loved how over the top the gore was. The execution was entertaining!

Like for example, there was a pretty hilarious character that would appear in random parts of the film. I think she was like a TV announcer that would report for the police, helping them with their investigations. I thought it was hilarious how happy she was with reporting brutal murders, so I guess she really loved her job.
There was also a really good twist in this movie that was both great and hilarious. It turned out that the madman the main character was hunting, was the son of the man who had killed her father. He offers for the two of them to work together, but since he had horrible morals, she immediately turns against him, and slices him with her katana.
I wanted more scenes of them together, because I thought their rivalry was beyond interesting.
One other scene I really loved with the body horror craziness was when one of the police officers kills the crazy sidekick of the madman, and she comes back to life with the jaws of a crocodile for her lower half.
That was genius body horror, and I felt so awful for the dude when he was getting his limbs ripped off while he was trying to fight her off.
So yeah, some ideas worked in the movie’s favor, but some parts did not work for me.
I’m not sure if I would ever watch this film again due to the sick scenes, but I will give the film credit for the awesome body horror scenes, the story, and the plot.
