V/H/S Halloween is an Urban Legend Extravaganza

This is one of my favorite additions to the V/H/S franchise. I knew I was already going to watch it, since it was only going to be based on Halloween. I was not expecting every single story to be based on some kind of urban legend, and each segment was so awesome in its own way. The gore in this film was next level brutal, and no single person was shown any shred of mercy in any of these short films.

Instead of ranking them, I think I'm going to talk about my personal thoughts on each short story.

It's kind of hard to rank them anyway, since each story is its own urban legend, and each story's execution is pretty damn great.

1. Diet Phantasma

This is one of the most creative horror stories I have ever seen. A diet soda is undergoing an experiment by scientists, who are determined to make sure their soda product will reach the public in time. They use a huge number of people to test taste their soda, each of them dying in brutal ways from taking one taste.

I couldn't stand the main dude in charge. He would constantly berate his entire team, as he became more annoyed throughout the story, whenever people would die from the product. Dude was a total menace, but I guess it paid off in the end when one little girl was finally able to handle the product. She became possessed by the ghost inside of the soda, yes, they put actual ghosts inside of these sodas, and they were able to finally release their product.

I couldn't help but laugh at the end. I guess all that hard work paid off in the end.

2. Coochie Coochie Coo

I thought the use of the footage was executed so well.

We follow the story of two friends who decide to have one last Halloween together before they start college. They decide to cause a little bit of chaos during Halloween, messing with people and trick or treating. They are warned in the beginning of a group of little kids that an entity known as Mommy will be coming for them, but the girls don't heed their warning.

They find a random house they don't notice before, and they find it strange how one family completely disregards the house. The girls ignore that strange encounter, and enter the house. The girls find themselves in a fight for survival against the entity called Mommy, who kidnaps random people to make them become her children.

The girls attempt to use the camera as their light source, trying to find any way to escape. The film ends with the two girls failing to escape, and they become the next victims for Mommy.

This was a neat one, and the Mommy creature was so freaking scary.

3. Ut Supra Sic Infra

This was one of my favorites from the film. We follow the story of a kid who is being questioned about the sudden murders of his friends. The authorities know that it was impossible for him to kill everyone, and they take him to the scene of the crime.

I loved how we kept cutting back and forth to the past and present, showing us what happened in that haunted house. The kid is terrified to take them inside, and we get a crazy reveal. One of his friends who was killed said that a phone can be used to call the dead, leading to deadly consequences. The authorities bring a phone along with them, sealing their fates.

That kid that was the only survivor, had become possessed in the past, and was used to murder his friends. The same thing happens again, and he rips out the eyes of each of the people that brought him back to the scene.

The entire execution of that entire sequence at the end of the short story was perfection. The horror fan in me absolutely loved it.

4. Fun Size

Of course, they had to include a campy horror story. We follow the story of four friends who are about to go trick or treating together. One of the friends named Lauren is having doubts about getting married to her boyfriend, Josh, and begs her best friend, Haley to not say anything.

Austin, Haley's boyfriend, constantly complains that they don't make original candy anymore. The four of them come across a house with candy inside, and they see a sign that ones 'one per person.' The kids don't listen to this, and they take more than one. They are instantly sucked into the candy bowl, (yes, this actually happens), and they find themselves now in the world of a entity known as Fun Size.

Austin and Haley both die first, becoming candy. They are literally chopped into separate pieces, becoming candy for the next people that select candy from the bowl. Lauren and Josh are caught in a vent with a machine, and while Josh is attempting to propose to Lauren before he dies, she rejects him. Josh is killed, and she is able to escape back into the real world, popping out somewhere entirely different. Fun Size comes back for her, killing her instantly.

The film ends with a mother and her two children becoming the next victims, once one of her kids takes more than two candies.

This was such a fun story, and I thought the acting was hilarious, but I'm pretty sure it was done on purpose.

5. Kidprint

This was by far the most disturbing short in the film.

It was filmed like a snuff film almost, and I couldn't believe what I was watching. We follow the story of a man who owns a store called Kidprint, where he has children come in and film themselves talking to the camera. There is a vicious serial killer on the loose, coming after children, and leaving behind the bodies for the police to find.

Tim is the owner of the store, and is told by the police on Halloween if he wouldn't mind retrieving footage he had taken of a girl who had gone missing, that he had taken at Kidprint earlier that day.

Tim goes back to the store, and we get a disturbing twist. One of his employees, is the killer. Tim tries to stop him, but he is quickly defeated. Two kids who had already undergone severe torture, believe that Tim is one of the killers, and they finish him off with several weapons. They try to escape, but are killed by his employee.

The film ends with Tim being blamed for the murders, as his employee is going to continue his legacy, and possibly his murders.

I couldn't stand the footage. It was beyond tough to watch, because this monster was willing to murder any child. It was so disturbing.

6. Home Haunt

This was a great way to end the film. We follow the story of a family who always did a haunted house every Halloween, that consist of a couple and their son, Zack. Once Zack grows up, he no longer wants to participate anymore. He is convince by his parents somehow, and they go to a Halloween store to purchase more things for the haunted house event.

The father finds a record called Halloween Horrors and decides to use it for the haunted house. Things instantly go wrong when he plays the record for his guests. The record is played, and the haunted house turns into an actual maze of horrors. Their guests are all brutally murdered by ghosts, witches, and zombies.

The family barely escapes, but they accidentally unleash pure terror on their city. The witch from the maze steals Zack's camera, and goes after children on the streets. She drops the camera, and it falls right in front of the entrance opening, that depicts a demon with it's mouth open. It comes to life, about to unleash who knows what kind of horror upon the world, as the footage cuts away.

Did you watch V/H/S Halloween? And if so, which one was your favorite story?
