Catherine is an Underrated Horror Game that Deserves a Huge Fan Base
Catherine is one of those rare gems that really sticks with you after playing the game. The story is extremely well done for your typical dating game. In this world, you play as a random dude named Vincent, who is stuck in a relationship dilemma.
He has to choose between three different Catherines, who have all stolen in his heart in different ways.
While this does sound kind of annoying and hilarious at the same time, the story is so engaging when it comes to his love life. Vincent finds himself caught in a curse, for cheating on his current girlfriend, Catherine. Every time he dreams, he must navigate his way through a horrific journey, in order to wake up safe and sound the next morning. If he fails, he will perish, like many other men have before.
Even though I really enjoy playing the horror adventure nightmare sequences, I also love how we get to play the simple stuff that focuses on Vincent's life. He is always spending time with his friends in a bar, and we get to interact with the people in the bar, send random text messages to any Catherine we want to be with, and we get to even play any song from a jukebox. It's so original and fun, and even though some of Vincent's friends are kind of scumbags, they are fantastic characters.
In my own personal playthrough, I decided to romance male Catherine. Yes, we get to choose either the two female Catherines, or the male Catherine, who is known as Rin. I took a huge liking to his character, and I found myself facing off against bizarre creatures from outer space, as I try to save his life from a nightmare dream sequence. It's also kind of cute to see how Vincent proclaims his love for him in front of his friends, realizing that he has fallen in love.
In my opinion, it's the cutest romance, since they are such an innocent and wholesome couple.
It's one of the best games ever made, and I hope this game never gets a remake. It's too perfect to re - do, and the character writing in this game is awesome.
