Killer Klowns from Outer Space Deserved a Franchise

This is the only horror film that continues to shock me to this day.
All because I truly expected this film to have a horror franchise.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space has an awesome premise. We follow the story of a group of random kids who are trying to save the world from aliens who resemble clowns. They have come to Earth for the human race to consume their blood through a straw, while their bodies are trapped within cotton candy.
Out of context that sounds insane, but yes, this is actually true.
The aliens looking like clowns is what helps them easily invade the town, because who the hell is gonna think a bunch of funny looking clowns are a threat? The way that they bring carnage to the town is kind of scary to watch, because they use weapons that look like toys. There is one scene where a random security guard doesn’t take the clowns seriously, when he catches them with pies.
Little does he know that the pies are secretly made out of acid, and the poor dude melts to death, as the smallest clown puts a cherry on top of his melted form.
Can you see why I assumed there was a franchise?
So of course, I was going to go online and search up the other films after I was done watching the movie for the first time.
And I was beyond shocked to learn that no franchise existed!
This revelation shocked me so much the first time I found out about this. You would expect a movie this awesome to have a franchise. Killer clowns coming from space to cause chaos and death upon the Earth?
It sounds like an easy win for creating multiple films based on this idea. This franchise could literally go in any direction, and it would still be entertaining. The silliness is already there, and the brutality of the clowns is both terrifying and kind of hilarious.
Kind of like Art the Clown, but minus the extreme gore.
There is actually a possible sequel that will hopefully one day come out, but there is one huge problem. This potential sequel has been in ‘development hell.’ The director has been trying to create a sequel for the longest time, but there have been multiple delays.
They didn’t receive enough money for the sequel.
They were already considering creating the movie at some point, but it was immediately shut down once Disney took over Fox.
Despite all of these delays, the director is determined to create a sequel for the fans.
I’m so curious to know what kind of insanity the director has in store for this movie. I can’t believe that he has struggled to make a sequel to this movie for that long. What the hell is going on with the people behind the scenes when it comes to the movie business?
If I was some kind of executive for Hollywood or whatever, I would instantly give away a crapload of money to get this movie made. I’m not an expert, but I wonder why this movie has gone through so much hell to get made. I really hope it’s not the fact that Hollywood doubts that this movie is going to do well.
There is awesome potential to a horror concept like this, but Hollywood hasn’t exactly expressed a lot of gratitude for the horror genre.
A good example is the lack of horror movies in the Oscars. I don’t get why it’s so hard to create a separate category for just horror, but I guess they can’t appreciate real art.
Hopefully we will eventually see a possible franchise come to life one day!
