Velvet Buzzsaw was a Unique Horror Film Ruined by the Trailer

I know that Velvet Buzzsaw wasn’t a huge hit when it was released on Netflix, but I was still interested in watching the movie, due to the unique horror concept.

But I made the mistake of watching the trailer first.

This was also around the time where I started to hate watching trailers before checking out a horror movie.

The trailer literally gives away the main plot points of the film, and it was so irritating that got ruined for me. And you know what? I actually enjoyed the film’s concept, but it wasn’t as exciting for me when I watched the stupid trailer.

We follow the story of a crew of asshole artists who are cursed by a dead man’s art.

A group of artists are determined to find the next best thing in the art world, and one of them gets the bright idea to take away a dead man’s paintings and put them in their own art exhibit. This becomes a massive success for the crew, and they are content with the popularity they are now getting from the art.

Then something sinister starts to take place, and several of the art pieces within the exhibit start to come to life, killing each of the asshole artists one by one.

In my opinion, while they did have some sort of karma coming, I don’t think they deserved to die in such a brutal way.

The main character gets killed by a robot known as Hobo Man. (I think he was the only character I felt so bad for, because he was actually trying to prevent his friends from getting killed).

His ex — girlfriend gets sucked into a painting, becoming a part of it.

One artist sticks her arm into a glass sphere, (I don’t remember why she did that), and then her arm gets ripped off, as her blood shoots out through several holes in the sphere. I thought that part was kind of cool.

Some other dude gets dragged into a painting by force, and multiple arms take a hold of him as he screams in fear.

And one of my favorite creative kills in the movie involved the last remaining survivor, who has a tattoo of a buzzsaw. The tattoo comes to life on her skin, and the buzzsaw activates, killing her in a brutal manner. This was hands down the most creative kill of the film!

Now…want to take a guess what got ruined for me before I watched the film?

Every single death was spoiled in the trailer.

I’m not exaggerating.

It was like a punch to the gut.

And it really pissed me off.

Whoever edited that trailer did a horrible job.

Why spoil the best parts of the freaking movie???

My guess is that maybe the director was worried that people wouldn’t like the movie, and sure, it wasn’t the best film I have seen in horror, but the kills were outstanding….and yes, they were also the best part of the movie too.

And the studio ruined that part of the movie for me.

I remember being so mad while I was watching the movie for the first time. I was enjoying the story, but I felt so annoyed while watching it. It’s rare for movie trailers to do this, but why do it in the first place?

There was another trailer that also did this, and I’m beyond grateful that I never saw the trailer before I watched the movie. Vicious Fun became one of my favorite horror movies of all time, and the trailer literally spoiled the entire movie in like two minutes.

Studios are whoever is in charge of trailers seriously need to get their shit together. We don’t want spoilers.

Ever.
