Voss was my Favorite Indiana Jones Death in the Franchise
I love how the Indiana Jones franchise is known for having over the top deaths. While the Dial of Destiny gave us a cool concept, I felt like the death scene of the main two villains was pretty lackluster. Just when I thought the Indiana Jones franchise was over, I was surprised to see a continuation through the videogame format. I thought this was an interesting take for the Indiana Jones franchise, and I was so impressed by the game: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, due to the incredible story that we got. It felt like I was watching the original trilogy, and it was even more awesome to learn that the game's events take place after the first film: Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The first film featured raw and gruesome deaths, and I was not expecting to see another brutal death again after the first movie. The death of Voss in the game was so INSANE, and it was brilliantly made by the developers of the game, bringing to life another over the top villain death. Toward the end of the game, like many other villains within the franchise, he refuses to listen to reason when it comes to the multiple warnings by Indiana Jones. He was determined to gather 17 stones that would unlock a portal connected to Noah's Ark, and it does not go well for Voss.
After he fights Indiana Jones twice, and attempts to take out his other two companions, Voss freaks out when he sees one of Indy's sidekicks trying to take control of Noah's Ark. Voss gets in front of the wheel, and again, he fails to listen to the warning of stepping away from the wheel. The portal opens up THROUGH the body of Voss, as he screams in utter pain. He is STILL ALIVE as the portal is opening up through him, and then he burns to death. The way that he screamed was so raw and real, the voice actor did a phenomenal job conveying his pain to the audience. It was over the top in the best way, and I didn't realize how badly I missed these kinds of deaths in the franchise.
This was such a creative death for Voss, similar to the brutality of how the three main villains had been killed in Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was even better to learn that both the artifacts from the first film and the game were connected in some way, making the death of Voss pay off more in the end.
His death is by far my favorite one. Voss was an excellent villain who like many others in the franchise, had paid the price for his actions.
Bastard deserved his death, but damn, that was a gnarly way to die!
