Did Dead Silence Deserve so Much Hate?

I have watched Dead Silence years ago, and I thought it was one of the coolest concepts I have seen in the horror genre. The plot was pretty entertaining, and even though there were several cheesy moments, the film was genuinely creepy when it came to the dolls. The kills were gnarly, and the main character had a great motivation with wanting to solve the mystery behind his girlfriend's murder.

It was a great film from beginning to end, and I don't understand why this film was criticized so harshly from fans and critics.

The main villain is one of the biggest reasons why this film worked so well. An old woman was obsessed with her dolls, including one random doll that looked like Slappy from Goosebumps. I don't really remember why the old lady's spirit started killing people, but her motivation to kill her victims is awesome and terrifying.

If you see her and scream, she will bit off your tongue, leaving behind a gaping hole on your face. It's one of the worst ways to die, and every time someone got killed in the movie, I cringed from how great the practical effects looked.

How the main character was able to avoid screaming for so long was impressive. I think his determination to figure out how his girlfriend died was what kept the dude going, and I can't believe he was willing to go to the village where the old lady had once lived.

I was hoping for a messed up ending to the movie, and I'm so glad I was right. It was memorable for a horror movie ending, despite how cheesy it was. The main character had been talking with his father throughout the film, because I believed he had lived in the same town where the old lady had died.

His father had a young woman caring for him, and she was always by his side whenever the main character would interact with his father.

The main character goes back to talk to his father toward the end of the movie, after he believes he has defeated the old lady somehow. He had teamed up with a detective, but unfortunately, his new sidekick got his tongue bitten off during the confrontation with her evil spirit.

He goes over to his father, but he sees something so horrific, and I couldn't help but love the silly twist. It turns out that his father was dead the whole time. We see that his entire back is literally missing, and we see his spine. It turns out that woman who had been caring for him was using him, playing him like a puppet.

It made sense why the lady was always by the dad's side, because she was literally using his spine to somehow mimic his body to move and speak...which I'm not sure how that would work out, but perhaps it had to do with the powers of the old lady?

The main character freaks out so bad over this disturbing realization, and he comes face to face with the young woman, who is secretly the old lady. A scream is building up within him, and he is remembering all of the terror he has gone through, and it builds up to a scream of terror.

The old lady lunches at him, biting off his tongue offscreen.

The film ends with the main character now resembling a puppet, speaking to the audience, that the old lady will always get you in the end.

That ending was like an urban legend. His death sucked, but it made sense for him to die. He had nothing to live for, and the villain was so vile and evil, she was impossible to defeat.

I understand that not everyone is going to like a movie, but I felt the backlash of this horror film was a bit much. I honestly really enjoyed it, and the insanity of what was taking place made the film special!
