''The Bride!'' is a Chaotic and Beautiful Monster Love Story

The Bride is one of the most original horror movies I have seen so far in 2026. I’m a sucker for love stories when it comes to the horror genre, and The Bride did not disappoint! It’s a stylish independent horror film that has an awesome production, and features one of my favorite horror movie couples! This horror film isn’t exactly for everyone, both critics and fans were mixed on the film, but I’m the type of person that loves to check out independent horror films like this!

The Bride left me laughing, shocked, and thoroughly entertained by the visuals and the great chemistry between the two main leads. It was so awesome to see Christian Bale return to horror, and this is the best role of Jessie Buckley so far! Her role as the Bride sold me, she blew me away with her insane performance, while Bale left me feeling sorry for the creature!

The Bride is now one of my favorite monster love stories since Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water!

The movie begins with a young woman who is unexpectedly murdered by two men.

The movie begins with a random young woman who is spending time with people at a bar/restaurant, and we can see that something is seriously wrong with this crowd. The men are acting beyond creepy with her, and while she is drinking excessively, she starts to inhabit Mary Shelley, the writer of Frankenstein, (who is also played by Jessie Buckley). Mary takes on a sort of inner voice within this woman, and while she is causing a major scene, she is thrown out by two men she is associated with.

While these two men are attempting to calm her down, they end up pushing her down the stairs, and she snaps her neck.

We then cut to a new character introduction: Frankenstein, her future groom. He meets up with a doctor who lives in an institute, who begs her for help. He desires to be with a companion, because being alone is agonizing for him. She agrees to his crazy plan of looking for a dead body to bring back from the dead, and they go ahead with the plan. They dig up the young woman in the beginning of the film, and she is brought back from the dead.

After waking up to her new life, The Bride turns out to be quite the wild card.

The Bride appears almost bored and cracks jokes after she wakes up. She wants to go outside and have fun, and after she pisses off the doctor, she is allowed to leave the building. She goes to a movie with Frankenstein, and from the looks of it, she is enjoying his company. She doesn’t appear to be afraid of him, and doesn’t seem to mind the thought of marrying Frankenstein. During their time together, they go to a club.

She dances on her own, as Frank watches her. He appears so enamored by her, his love for her transforming into a sudden fantasy of the two of them dancing together on the dance floor, the duo wearing a bride and groom outfit. While the Bride is having fun, she gets angry when random men start to touch her, and Frankenstein comes to her rescue.

While they are leaving the club, two of these men come after the duo, and they attempt to attack both of them. Frank kills both of them to save the Bride, and they freak out when someone snaps a photo of them. The duo runs away, back to the institute. Frank collects his things, and tells The Bride to get away from him, to save herself. She tells him that she has no home to go to, and they run away together, the two of them now on the run.

During their adventure, Frank and the Bride grow closer.

A lot of crazy things happen with the duo while on the run. They travel by train, and Frank is almost killed by a random police officer, forcing the Bride to step in and save him. She kills the man, and later on, she is shocked to see the body of Frank, when he takes off his clothes to gather coins from a fountain for them to use while on the run. While they are on the run, a detective and his partner are determined to hunt them down, as they find clues to their whereabouts.

They have a heart-to-heart talk, and Frank starts to lie to the Bride, telling her that they were once a married couple in the past. The two of them almost hook up, but Frank declines for now. They also go to watch another random movie, but it immediately goes wrong when the Bride gets pissed off at a man trying to make out with a woman who doesn’t want his affection, and the people in the theater freak out when they see the monster duo.

A detective and his partner see this spectacle, and decide to investigate the movie theater. Frank and the Bride then run to a random rich party, where they disguise themselves as waiters. Frank sees his favorite movie actor, and while he is speaking with him, he is laughed at by the actor and a crowd of people. This angers Frank, and while he is lashing out, he untentionally starts a dance. The Bride joins in, while the entire party is now having fun dancing with these two.

The authorities break into the party, interrupting the fun. The Bride goes crazy when they pull guns on Frank, and she gets out her own gun, wanting to protect him. She mocks the rich, and then accidentally kills an officer. Frank uses this distraction to escape with the Bride, and then they share a kiss, the two of them falling in love after that encounter. The detective goes after the duo, and doesn’t pull the trigger when he sees them. Frank and the Bride mock him, and they run away laughing, as he lets them go.

The monster couple finally share an intimate moment together, and they continue on the run.

The actions of the monster duo continue to lead down a path of chaos.

The two men who were associated with the young woman’s murder are now being forced to kill her again, after their boss finds out about her being alive. He kills one of them in anger, and orders the other one to find her. Frank and the Bride are forced to murder two policemen when one of them attempts to harm the Bride, and they continue on their run.

They run into the detective and his partner, and the Bride learns that she was once a woman named Ida. She gets angry when Frank gets shot, and she shoots the detective, running away with Frank. We cut back to the detective, who reveals to his partner a dark secret, that he personally knew the young woman who became the Bride.

She was an escort, who was stuck with a group of evil people, and he was trying to help her, but she ended up getting killed. He gives up his badge to his partner, making her the new detective. She makes him a promise that she won’t let her die again, and she continues the mission of finding her.

The Bride also had started a revolution of women going on the streets to attack bad people, bearing her signature look, and this news leads to the doctor finding out about what happened to the duo, her shock registered clearly on her face.

The Bride and Frank have a bad argument, as he admits that he lied to her about their past as a couple, and the Bride almost kicks him out of the car, but then has a change of heart when she sees Frank is in pain. She decides to take him to a theater, so that he can watch a movie with his favorite actor.

Frank apologizes to her, and the Bride forgives him. He proposes to her, and the Bride cries in happiness, as the two of them realize that they still love each other.

Then Frank is suddenly killed in front of the Bride.

This part shocked me so much, his death literally came out of nowhere. While the couple was sharing an romantic moment, the asshole who killed the Bride shot Frank in the head, and the partner was also present at the movie theater, witnessing his death. The Bride escapes from the cops with Frank’s body, and she goes all the way back to the institute.

She begs the doctor to save his life, and she doesn’t agree. The Bride pulls a gun on the doctor, and she cries as the doctor confirms that the Bride did indeed truly love him. The doctor reveals that she once did bring her own husband from the dead, but he had no memory of her, and she was forced to put him down.

The detective shows up with a crowd of police officers, including the asshole, who was trying to kill the Bride again. She is gunned down in a blaze of glory by the cops. Her body falls on top of Frank, and the run for the duo is now over. The partner has a change of heart, and kicks out the police force, telling them to go after the asshole who was responsible for her death.

The partner tells the doctor to take her time, hinting that she wants her to save the monster couple. The authorities are able to arrest the asshole, and the partner notices that the doctor did give in to bring back the monster duo once again.

The movie ends with Frank and the Bride slowly waking up from yet another slumber, the two of them holding hands.

Even though these two were criminals that killed so many people in ruthless ways, I felt so sad when they both died. They were such a cute couple, and I wasn’t expecting to get so enraptured by their romance. I couldn’t believe that the Bride was willing to forgive Frank for lying to her, but her love for him was truly impossible to break.

It did suck how they weren’t going to remember each other after coming back from the dead, but I think the ending was implying that their love for each other will always remain, no matter what.
