Gone Girl's Amy Dunne is a Terrifying Twist Villain

Amy Dunne from Gone Girl has always been one of the most mysterious and terrifying villains I have seen in a thriller. The movie goes from a drama/crime to horror when we begin to see Amy's true evil colors throughout the film. From the very beginning of the film, we know something happened to Amy, but we are conflicted with whether or not her husband, Nick Dunne, had anything to do with her sudden disappearance.

Nick Dunne is suspected of her disappearance, and the authorities, including the public, believe he is guilty of what happened to Amy. So much evidence is piling up against him, but it turns out to be a lie, created by Amy. She had learned of Nick's cheating on her with a younger woman, and decided he needed to be punished. She slowly built-up evidence of against him, to craft a plan of faking her death, to make the whole world believe that Nick is a monster that killed his wife.

She gets away with her plan for a long time, but once she gets into trouble with two random people who foil her plans, Amy is forced to come up with another plan to keep herself from the law, by convincing an old boyfriend to look after her, and keep her in his home. She is tricked by Nick through a television network to come home, and she realizes that perhaps Nick still loves her. Amy makes the choice to return home, but she needs another plan to ensure she won't be ridiculed by the world for faking her death.

Amy comes up with a sick plan, by using the man who took her in. She kills him and frames him for both kidnapping and torture. She returns home to Nick, and she convinces him to stay with her for good, when she finds a way to get pregnant with Nick's baby. The film ends with Nick deciding to not create a case against her, and he chooses to stay with his wife, to start a family with her.

Watching that haunting ending with Amy smiling up at Nick as we hear his thoughts of what is going to happen next with their marriage was a BALLSY way to end the film.

I was so angry when Amy ended up being victorious, because she deserved to be taken down. She was pure evil, and how she hid this side of herself for years was impressive and scary at the same time.

Amy's backstory is a hidden mystery in the film, but the book does elaborate more on how her past was like. Her parents did create a monster, but I think Amy was already born a monster. Her parents only added to her evil nature, because how could someone this intelligent be created? I think this evil side of her could have been prevented, but because her parents always expected more of her throughout her entire life, she slowly turned into a beast.

In the book, she went after anyone who would dare to pose any kind of threat to her. If you pissed Amy off in any way, she would make your life a miserable hell. She also revealed that she didn't give a damn when her parents were grieving over her loss, because she felt that they deserved to suffer. Amy is the kind of person that knows how to manipulate anyone around her, and only Nick, is able to see the real her.

I can't believe that Nick stayed with her, but I think that he was kind of a monster too. He loved the thought of being married to someone that killed for him, because he knew that he had left her, his thoughts would always return to Amy, the only woman who knew him inside and out.

Amy Dunne is a sociopath, and one of the scariest villains in movie history.
