It's Impossible to Rank Mike Flanagan's Horror Television Shows

I have been asked by several family members or friends if I could rank all of the Mike Flangan’s TV shows.
My answer is always the same.
It’s impossible to rank the shows.
Each show is it’s own standalone story, and it’s masterfully crafted by Flanagan, giving horror fans all kinds of horror that we will never forget.
I’m only going to focus on the main four, which is The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
I’m now going to explain why every show stands out in its own way.
The Haunting of Hill House is a story about a family who is haunted by their childhood trauma from their old home.

This masterpiece was the perfect introduction into the horror world of Mike Flanagan. Dare I say, that this show is actually better than the book. We go back and forth between the family when it comes to their present and past lives. They never moved on from what they experienced as children after losing their mother in their old home.
They are constantly haunted by Hill House, to the point where the family is forced to go back to the home, only to learn that perhaps the home isn’t as evil as the family had assumed.
It’s amazing how Flanagan was able to bring pure horror along with moments of bawling your eyes out. This show broke my heart in so many scenes, while scaring the crap out of me at the same time.
It’s a fantastic show, and is one of my all time favorites in television.
The Haunting of Bly Manor is a haunting tale about two children who are plagued by ghosts, while secretly disguised as a love story.

The Haunting of Bly Manor is considered to be Mike Flanagan’s most underrated show. However, I do think it’s another masterpiece that should never be ignored by horror fans. It’s another story based on a book, that follows the story of a woman named Dani. She becomes the babysitter for two children, who are being haunted by several ghosts within Bly Manor.
The home is plagued by death, and a tragedy that occurred before Dani’s arrival, had only added an extra ghost to the crew that already haunt the home. Despite all of the terror that Dani witnesses throughout the show, she grows close with the gardener of the manor, named Jaime.
The two fall in love, and through this love, Dani is able to defeat the main evil in the home, and is able to prevent more people from getting killed.
The love story to this show is so powerful, and I found myself crying with the final shot of the show. If you want a great love story with some great horror added in, I guarantee you will love this one!
Midnight Mass is one of the top ten best horror shows ever made.

I know that I said that it’s impossible to rank the shows, but I think Midnight Mass is secretly my favorite show Flanagan has created. We follow the story of a young man named Riley, who returns to a small island, that is his hometown. He had killed a woman during a drunk driving accident, and his home was the only place he could return to.
However, there is something far darker taking place on the island.
Father Paul, a new priest who arrives to the island, brings something along with him, whom he believes to be an angel.
This creature turns out to be a vampire, that is slowly feasting on people, while turning many residents into creatures themselves.
The ending to this show is probably the most powerful one Mike Flanagan has done so far. I consider this ending to be in the top 5 best endings ever in horror television, the slow burn build up to the ending is INCREDIBLE!
The Fall of the House of Usher will satisfy your horror urges as you watch a family get (deservedly) killed.

The Fall of the House of Usher has a totally different vibe when it comes to the other shows. We are watching the downfall of a family who 100% deserves what is coming to them, because this family has used their power over others for years, willing to do whatever it takes to stay on top.
A deal with an entity had led to the riches among the family members, but they had abused their power for evil instead of good. Now the deal is coming to an end, and the entity is ready to collect the souls of the Usher family. Each episode is so exciting to watch, knowing that we are going to get brutal family deaths in every episode, and the buildup is done so well!
It’s so weird to watch the same actors that Flanagan uses in every show be such assholes in this one. They are so easy to hate, and it’s satisfying to watch the downfall of this entire family. Of course, some of these people around the family are good souls, and I felt bad for them, for getting pulled into the evil of these bastards.
It’s a major standout among all of the shows, and I know that horror fans will adore the madness that takes place in this show!
Do you have a favorite Mike Flanagan show among the four? Do you think it’s possible to rank every show?
