Peaky Blinders Should Not Continue with a Spinoff

Peaky Blinders is one of the best TV shows ever made, and while I thought the TV show had a perfect ending, I’m still excited to check out the film that was recently released this year. (It was definitely mixed when it came to the ending, I have no idea why, but I think I have an idea how the film ended).

One of the few things I recently heard about Peaky Blinders was a confirmed continuation of the show, turning the show itself into a literal franchise. I have to be honest, I think this show should have permanently ended after the movie.

While the thought of introducing a brand new cast of characters to lead the Peaky Blinders is interesting, it won’t be the same people that the fans have come to love. Thomas Shelby was the heart of the show, and I feel that we got enough of a glimpse into the lives of the Shelby family, when it came to the mafia life that they all lived.

The villains they fought against were also awesome characters, and I’m not sure if the next spinoffs are going to continue to capture the attention of all the fans. I feel that we’re going to get bored over time, because it’s going to start feeling repetitive when it comes to the villains, and the mafia storyline.

The ending of the show was the perfect ending for the gang of the Peaky Blinders. Thomas Shelby was finally able to somehow move on after so much loss at the end of season 6. He had gone through a total downhill after the death of Grace, and once he lost his daughter, Ruby, he only got worse. He ended up choosing to let his family leave him behind, Lizzie and Charlie, so that they could have a better life without him to interfere.

He shared a heartfelt goodbye with Arthur, shared another goodbye with his other family members, and even blew up his own house, as a way to move on from Grace, including his mafia lifestyle. Then toward the end of the episode, he has made peace with his life, knowing that he is going to die from his sickness. The spirit of his daughter tells him that he still has a chance to live, and he shockingly finds out that he was never sick.

Another gang had paid off a doctor to trick him, and Thomas goes after the bastard, only to let him go, hinting that Thomas wants to break the cycle of his mafia life.

The final episode ends with Thomas watching a carriage of all of his stuff burning down, a metaphor of Thomas getting to start over with his life.

This was literally the perfect ending for his character, and for the show itself. It never needed to actually continue.

I know that the movie is the permanent ending, but I know that the movie is only an intro to the future spinoffs we are going to get with the Peaky Blinders.

I don’t get why Hollywood always chooses to somehow continue so many great shows or movies. Peaky Blinders doesn’t need the same treatment as Star Wars or Marvel, it’s a show about a mafia family, and it has been considered to be one of the best shows ever made.

It’s a shame that writers/directors don’t let their stories just end.

Hollywood is so desperate for ideas, that they are willing to continue a show forever, knowing that it had a perfect ending to begin with.

I guess money is more important than to let a masterpiece end.

What do you think about the Peaky Blinder spinoffs? Do you think the show should have ended in season 6 and with the movie?
