The Scariest Scene in Silent Hill History
While the Silent Hill franchise is known for the scariest scenes in video game history, there is one scene that is a total standout among the entire franchise. Silent Hill 2 is considered to be one of the best games in the franchise, and there is one scene that scares the crap out of me to this day.
Silent Hill 2 follows the story of James Sunderland, who has come to Silent Hill to search for his dead wife, who has mysteriously sent him a letter. She has been dead for three years, and he comes to this town, to get answers with how his dead wife was about to reach out to him. He meets a counterpart of his wife, who looks just like her. Her name is Maria, and James travels with her during their journey through the town, as they try to stay alive when confronted by monsters.
The duo is bested by a monster known as Pyramid Head later on in the story, and Maria is killed while they are trying to escape. Shortly after her death, James shockingly reunites with her, but something is different.
Maria is acting strange, and appears to carry the memories of his dead wife. When James gets frustrated over this realization, Maria becomes a little aggressive, confirming that she is not his wife.
This scene is so terrifying, because Maria's reaction just isn't normal. It's even more creepy that James had witnessed her death, and she is not acting like the old Maria that he knew.
Before her death, Maria was flirty, playful, and had a heart.
After her death, Maria is now scary, and comes off as dangerous.
I could not stand how creepy Maria was when she confirmed that she was not Mary. It's almost like Silent Hill is threatening James directly, because Maria was created by the town itself. Since James was searching for his dead wife, the town knew how to mess with his head, and conjured up their own image of Maria, that contained the darkest desires of what James wanted while his wife was sick.
The prison scene is the best moment in the Silent Hill franchise. I know that this franchise is known for being over the top and not making any sense in the best way, but man, that scene creeps me out. It's so obvious that something is wrong, because how can a dead person come back from the dead...and why would this person act so different?
How James was able to maintain his sanity after that was beyond me. Well, he did go kind of insane during the rest of the game, but depending on your progress of the story, you will get an ending that coincides with the madness of James, or perhaps the happy ending...but in reality, James didn't really deserve to be happy...for those who know the twist, you I'm sure you know what I'm referring to.
What do you think of this scene? Do you think it's the scariest scene in the Silent Hill franchise?
