My family and I were having a nice homecooked dinner of burgers when my sister decided to put on an old film I haven’t seen in years.

I recognized Tom Cruise, and realized we were watching War of the Worlds, the remake that was released in 2005. I had seen this film years ago, and couldn’t remember how the aliens arrived to planet Earth.

I completely forgot that the aliens had cut off complete contact for the human race, watches stopped, cars stopped working, electricity was gone…the goal was to leave humans completely hopeless.

Then something crashed onto the Earth, crashing in the town where the main character and his two children lived. My heart stopped when a tripod emerged slowly out of the ground in the middle of the road, as people watched this thing slowly rise in awe and terror.

The tripod immediately begins to wipe everyone out, blasting people to literal ashes, as everyone ran for their lives.

This is a brilliant way to begin a sci — fi horror film.

I don’t think I have ever watched an alien invasion begin in such a powerful way. What makes this scene so scary to me, is imagining myself in the shoes of these fictional characters.

What the hell would we do in real life, if something like this were to happen?

Would we stand by and watch this terror enfold? Or would we begin to get the hell out of there before this alien thing reveals itself?

I think if I had seen that shit, I would have been long gone. I would have been like 100 miles running away on foot. I would not want to stick around for something like that. Hell no.

I’m planning to do a full movie review on this film later.

I haven’t seen this film in years, so I gotta watch it again. I can’t believe I forgot how the movie started. Like man, watching the tripod reveal itself to the humans is excellent cinema.

Why doesn’t Hollywood make movies like this anymore?
