Dale Cooper and Harry Truman Were an Awesome Duo in Twin Peaks
This team up is one of my favorite duos in television. Dale Cooper, an FBI agent, comes to Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of Laura Palmer. He teams up with the police department, and meets the sheriff, named Harry Truman. What I loved about Harry's character, is that he wasn't your typical egoistical sheriff that got angry with someone wanting to take over the investigation. This trope had gotten pretty annoying from so many other shows or movies I have seen. David Lynch did throw in a corrupt police department in the prequel Twin Peaks movie, and man, Harry felt like a breathe of fresh air.
Harry is portrayed as a genuine good man, who has a huge heart, and cares about everyone in Twin Peaks. He seems thankful to have Dale Cooper take on the case, and despite all the weird stuff that happens throughout the case, such as the supernatural stuff, Harry just rolls with it. I think that he was determined to solve the case no matter what, and even though he did express doubt about the supernatural elements, he still respected Cooper.
One scene I really enjoyed back in season 1 was when Cooper claimed he had a dream about Laura's case, and Harry went along with it, never judging Cooper, or questioning how he got this information from a dream.
Cooper also had respect for Harry, when it came to his love interest. Harry had fallen in love with a woman who was very corrupt, and she even attempted to murder Cooper at some point. I couldn't believe how forgiving Cooper was, and his patience when it came to wanting to help his friend was so heartwarming. He eventually tells Harry that his girlfriend must be arrested, but by the time this comes around, she is murdered, breaking Harry's heart. Cooper still remained by his side, really cementing how powerful their friendship was.
Hell, toward the end of season 2, Cooper had to go into the Red Room to save his love interest, Annie. Harry was obviously terrified of this supernatural realm, but he still waited for Cooper to return, even though his face showed his fear.
That is true friendship right there.
While I was a little sad that the two of them never got to reunite in the third season, I'm glad that Harry's character was mentioned a lot, and it was pretty bittersweet when Cooper told Harry's brother to give him his regards.
Cooper and Harry are my top 5 favorite duos, and it was even better that this duo came from one of the best horror shows ever made!
